Tech Tip #1: It should be noted: The 'TDC' (top dead center) crankshaft timing mark and the engine block 'TDC' timing mark are really at the bottom of the crankshaft and engine block assemblies. This should not be confused with BDC (bottom dead center). See picture.
Tech Tip #2: Attention 2002-2003 Saturn VUE, Saturn L series, Saab, and 2003 Cadillac CTS owners. The 2002-2003 GM factory service manual shows the incorrect tensioner and displays the very late 2003 model year version. In most cases, your 'correct' tensioner will be like the 2001 Cadillac Catera version shown at left.
Tech Tip #3: Timing Belt Paint Marks. Some replacement timing belts will have painted timing marks. The timing belt layout was modified during the 1999 model year. This modifcation changed the location of the timing marks.
Click on image at left for timing belt paint mark information.
Catera, CTS, Saab, Saturn, timing belt. Note painted timing marks and directional arrows on belt.
Customer feedback:
"Wanted to let you know that I received my deposit for the tool that I rented. Thanks a lot for the help and good service. You were correct in saying that it would be almost impossible to do the timing belt and tensioner replacement without the kit."
